The Church’s Constitution and Bylaws establish an Evangelism Committee and tasks them to “develop an evangelism program to share the love of Christ.” Current members are AJ Albertson, Thad and Donna Banks, Vernon Bullard, Steve and Becky Harris, Donald Simpson, Joann Smith and Rita and Gary Barrett (Chairman). When meeting, discussion turned to how critical it would be to get the whole church involved in a program driven by the mission Christ gave us (Matthew 28:19-20) and out of concern for brothers and sisters in the church that we don’t see often to reach out and exhort them, as it says in Hebrews 10:25, “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.”

With this in mind the committee began to brainstorm and discuss ideas that would serve as enablers to accomplishing the task at hand. We started with assessing the church’s membership and found that of the 378 total members there are 144 who are active to some degree. Of the remaining 234 members that are inactive, 77 have addresses outside the community, leaving 157 members that don’t come at all or rarely come for worship. Of course, a number of those can’t come for various reasons. Taking all this into consideration, the committee felt strongly that an evangelistic effort to reach the unchurched in the community needed to start with a fresh commitment in the hearts of our active members, hence the idea of a “40 Day Commitment to Jesus.”

This would be a commitment between each member and God, with accountability to God, to faithfully come to seek Him every Sunday morning at 10:00 for Bible Study and 11:00 for worship and Wednesday evening at 7:00 for Bible Study/Prayer for 40 days from 7 Jan-15Feb 2018. Hearing and embracing God’s Holy and Inerrant Word preached and taught would renew our minds and hearts individually and as a church.  Faithfulness in keeping the commitment will surely move the hand of God to empower us to be instruments of His grace to then reach out to our  brothers and sisters in Christ during the 40 days to exhort them to come back to renew their fellowship with God and His people. This work of God will prepare us to then reach out to the unchurched in the community to encourage them to join us in what God is doing at Beaver Dam Baptist Church.

This commitment is an essential part of the Evangelism/Outreach Program. More details will be presented during our worship service on 10 Dec with the objective that “Each one reach one”.
